Cardinal Spellman front court player Caroline Stover (2018) has given her verbal commitment to play basketball at Division-1 William & Mary.
Stover attends Cardinal Spellman and plays AAU for NEX Elite. Newton North combo-guard Sayawni Lassiter (Class of 2017) has given her verbal commitment to play college basketball at Division-1 Florida State University.
Highly touted nationally as a middle schooler, Lassiter (Say-Say) battled through some injuries during the middle years of her high school career at Newton North. She is now healthy, and once again one of the top players in New England. Say-Say has always played her AAU ball for her uncle Clinton Lassiter's program, the Boston Showstoppers. Bishop Feehan versatile wing Emily Miccile (Class of 2017) has given her verbal commitment to play college basketball at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.
One of the most versatile players in the state, Miccile can play inside and outside offensively and guard any position defensively. Miccile plays her AAU ball for MT Elite. The decision reunites Miccile with her long time AAU coach and newly named Adelphi head coach, Missy Traversi. Marissa Fontaine, one of the many stars on Bishop Feehan's state title team, has made her verbal commitment to play basketball at Bentley University.
An inside-outside threat, Fontaine (a Franklin native) plays her AAU basketball for Sam Doner's Bay State Jaguars squad. It was a big weekend for Walpole's Kelly Fogarty as she captured her third straight "A Shot For Life" shooting title and declared her intention on attending D1 University of Maine.
Fogarty is regarded as one of the state's top marksman, is a multi-year Bay State Conference all-star and plays her AAU ball for MCW Starz. Class of 2017 inside-outside wings Sarah Deyo (Attleboro) and Maddie Murphy (Worcester Academy) are both headed to Southern New Hampshire University of the NE-10. Deyo has been terrorizing the Hockomock Conference for the past two seasons and is entering her senior season as a front runner for the league MVP award with her ability to abuse smaller players in the post and take bigger players off the dribble. After spending her first two seasons at Norton High, Murphy took her talents to Worcester Academy and was a key cog in the quick rebuild of WA by Coach Dan Nagle. Murphy is one of the most efficient shooters in the state and can be a menace in the open court and on the boards.
Both Deyo and Murphy play their AAU ball for MT Elite. Abington super wing Jenny Worden, regarded as one of the best players in the state in the class of 2017, has given her verbal commitment to Stonehill College.
Worden, who plays her AAU ball for Pat Russell with NEX Elite, needed only six games to surpass one thousand points during her junior year. Norwood's dynamic junior point guard Meghan Reen has given her verbal commitment to play basketball at Assumption College in Worcester, MA.
In her first two years at Norwood, Reen led the Mustangs in almost every statistical category and was a catalyst in a significant turnaround in the team's record since her arrival. A two-time league all-star and two-time Norwood team MVP, Reen is well on her way to scoring her 1000th point during her junior year. Reen plays her AAU basketball for local powerhouse MT Elite coached by Missy Traversi. Editorially, having personally coached Meghan during her first two years at Norwood, Assumption will not regret the decision of offering her this opportunity via persistently recruiting her over this past year. Meghan was a joy to coach and is a pleasure watch as she plays the game with such a unique and relentless style. She makes the un-coachable plays on both ends, elevates her teammates' play and despite being highly regarded as one of the best players in the state - has no ego. She can score in a variety of ways, deliver full court passes on time and on target, cause havoc in the passing lanes, sneakily block shots and hit the glass extremely well for her size/position. This scholarship is well deserved and I look forward to watching her thrive locally at the next level. |
